Privacy Policy

At ZeroBG, we believe that your digital privacy is a fundamental human right. This Privacy Policy details how we handle information, files, and assets when you access and use our website.

1. 100% Client-Side Image Processing

Unlike standard background removal platforms, ZeroBG does not upload, copy, transfer, or store your images on any backend server. All computation, neural network operations, pixel segmentations, filters, compositing, and file exports are executed inside your browser tab on your local machine using WebAssembly and WebGPU.

Because your images are never sent over the internet, we have absolutely zero access to the documents, photos, or graphics you choose to edit. Your files stay securely on your device at all times. This applies to the image data itself, its embedded metadata, and every version you export.

The AI model that performs the segmentation is downloaded from this website to your browser the first time you use it (approximately 65MB, then cached). Data flows in that direction only — the model comes to your image; your image never goes to us.

2. What We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect, receive, or store the images you edit, in whole or in part.
• We do not collect metadata (EXIF details, GPS coordinates, camera models) associated with those images.
• We do not keep any record of which files you imported or exported, or of their filenames.
• We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not request personal identifiers such as your name, email address, postal address, or telephone number.

3. Analytics, Cookies, and Advertising

ZeroBG is free, and the website is funded by advertising. The third-party services below are what pay for it. They are entirely separate from the image editor and never receive your images — but they do process data about your visit, and they set cookies.

Nothing that identifies you is stored unless you accept. On your first visit you are asked. Until you choose Accept we run Google's Consent Mode with consent defaulted to denied, which means Google Analytics and AdSense do load, but they may not write analytics or advertising cookies and the ads you see are non-personalised. Microsoft Clarity, which records sessions, is not loaded at all. If you decline, that state simply persists: no cookies, no session recording, non-personalised ads only. Accepting permits cookies, personalised ads, and session recording. You can verify the cookie behaviour yourself in your browser's developer tools, and change your mind at any time via the Cookie settings link in the footer.

• Google Analytics 4 — measures visits, pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and referring site. Sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*).
• Microsoft Clarity — loaded only if you accept. It records how pages are used, including session recordings and heatmaps that capture mouse movement, clicks, scrolling, and page content, so we can find usability problems. The editor and batch areas are explicitly masked, so the photos you work on and their filenames are excluded from these recordings. You should still assume that your interaction with the rest of the page is recorded.
• Google AdSense — serves the advertising that pays for the site. Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, and tracking pixels to select ads based on your visit here and to other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings.

We also load fonts, icons, and the segmentation library from third-party content delivery networks (Google Fonts, unpkg, cdnjs, jsDelivr), and the optional preset backdrop images from Unsplash. Requesting a file from any of these exposes your IP address to that provider, as happens on most websites.

You can block every one of the above with a content blocker or your browser’s tracking protection and the background remover will still work normally. The editor has no dependency on analytics or advertising.

4. Your Images and Data Protection Law

Because the editing happens entirely in your browser, the images you process are never disclosed to us. There is no server-side copy to breach, retain, subpoena, or delete. That protection comes from how the tool is built, not from a promise in this document.

On everything else we would rather be precise than reassuring:

• Your image data is not transmitted, not stored, and not accessible to us.
• Your visit data is handled by the analytics and advertising services named in section 3, under their own privacy policies. That is ordinary personal data and it does leave your device.
• Cookies and consent: no analytics or advertising cookie is stored until you accept, and session recording never runs without it. Google Analytics and AdSense are loaded in a consent-denied mode so the site can still show non-personalised ads, which is what pays for it. Declining costs you no functionality: the editor has never depended on any of it. You can change your choice at any time from the footer.
• Regulated data: we make no compliance certification of any kind. ZeroBG is not a HIPAA covered entity or business associate, we offer no Business Associate Agreement, and nothing here should be read as clearance to process protected health information. If you handle regulated data, use your organisation’s approved tooling and review process.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we safeguard your data.
